I might be inclined to agree, if not for the lack of material...
How much nicer it would have been with one more full, proper album. Or at least a quality EP.
Anyway...Babyshambles are fakers and the trio surrounding Pete are just nameless vultures as far as I'm concerned.

nah there's a wealth of material out there. you could easily make up another album...things like smashing, whole world is our playground (there is a cracking version recorded for the second album), the UTB b-sides. there's easily an album in rarities.

Pete is Babyshambles, the other musicians could be replaced, but if Pete likes them then that'll make it easier for recording, but im not sure he does like them. Id compare them as being as significant as Morrisseys backing band, who, though being quite good, dont really get a look in when performing as 'Morrissey'. Babyshambles lost a good member when Gemma left.
I've always been a bit sceptical of Mick Jones production, i dont mind it, but 'Don't Be Shy' will always be awful, if any other band put that on an album they would have been slated. Its a shame as it cold have been a good song.
I think the Dirty Pretty Things album will be beter produced, i think Carl and Didz have experience in this area so they might do it between them or assist an established producer. I think he's got the line up riight too as the spotlight wont be just on him.

well if you are skeptical of MJ's production, what do you think of his work with the Libs?

I think he did a great job with UTB (though Bernard Butler gets an assist). Libertines and Down In Albion are both weak...
Mick allows too much garbage and wank on albums. He takes songs which should be tight and makes 'em flabby and sloppy. I guess he thinks it sounds more "real", but in my mind there's no harm in using a studio to capture a band at their best.
Moreover, as a great guitarist in his own right, Mick Jones should have done something to keep Patrick Walden from running amok on Albion. What trash.

I agree with miss, up the bracket was a quality album production wise, but i thought thie libertines seemed a bit too scrappy, i know thats probably all they had time to do at the time. Another producer may have held them together better, both the songs and the songwriters. I've not heard ...Albion yet so i cant comment on that.

Very interesting ideas...I'm surrounded by smart people. I am going to go home tonight and listen to both albums again...Okay, next question: Paul Epworth--isn't he "over-hyped" like the Arctic Monkeys?

Some of the phones mixes are just borin but the Bloc Party one's quality. Think he produced Maximo Park as well, and, if im right, he did a good job with them too.
He's producing the White Rose Movement at the moment, they're good too.
Being a session player for James Blunt? Thats gotta be an easy job.

I think you're right that he's got a good lineup around him, they're all talented in their own right and blend together well, musically and friendship wise. Sometimes I find Patrick's guitar playing excrutiatingly bad and scratchy. I actually don't mind it for the most part on the album, there's a few good bits but at other times he just seems to trample over everything
