Does anyone actually get the story in the 'Shambles album? My interpretation is pretty much that they 'killed a man for his giro' and had to go to Pentonville Rough... maybe the whole idea was an excuse by Pete to get Pentonville Rough on. Anyone?
P.S I've read Pete's idea of what the story is.

I think the story is about a bloke who makes a average album.

I think it's a story about a very misguided individual ,who lets his beautiful songs get slaughtered by shit musicians and studio engineers.

Fuck what Pete says, I still don't think its a concept album - more like 3 different types of songs. 1st set being happy, love type songs. 2nd being indifferent/miscellaneous. 3rd being pretty sad songs.

Well from my point of view, which doesn't count for much I hasten to add, they're all pretty sad songs.
I've waited ages for this album, everyone has said it is going to be great, and then he turns acoustic songs into ska punk, fast feelgood songs into slow, 'wave your arms' and lighterflame melodies.
Like all of Peter's recent material, I'm sure it will grow on me. But if he wants to sell records to tagalongs, it shouldn't be this way. He will not go down as the legend he may be if he consistently underperforms his best songs in the studios.
It is depressingly sad. Because I know he is a genius and could become a great.
I'm starting to feel that he and Carl are like the Kray twins, and are at their best when they're together, and awful when separated. Both too stubborn and egotistical to patch it up. But the second Libertines album wouldn't indicate this, although they weren't exactly on top form.
