Me again... I wasn't sure that it qualified as news, but I saw this on the Xfm site today, from when Pete was on Zoe Ball's Xfm show on Tuesday (click here)
Actually that site doesn't always work so here's the main bits (the first bits are just background):
While Barat has since gone to the press and talked about The Libertines’ future without his bandmate the guitarist has remained silent, until now. Speaking exclusively on Zoë Ball’s show yesterday a newly shaven-headed Doherty explained what’s actually been going on.
“I organised this little shindig in Whitechapel,” he explained, “The one I’d organised before, Carl hadn’t come to. But we met in the park and had a lovely time and he assured me he was gonna be at the next one. Anyway, at the party, all night people were saying ‘Play ‘Death On The Stairs’’ or whatever. And I was saying, ‘Wait. Hang on. Carl will be here soon.’ But he didn’t come, so I had the right hump.
“So I thought, what’s the difference between doing a gig in Whitechapel and a gig in Bilbao? So I didn’t go [to the date in Bilbao on their Spanish tour]. But then I felt better and I tried to go, but then my aunt Lil died. So I was gonna go to the gigs in Spain, but I stayed to go to the funeral. I was gonna get a flight out to Spain afterwards, but by then they’d decided I wasn’t welcome and that ‘I was ill’.”
When asked if he’d made up with Barat, he revealed that the pair are still in contact.
“I tried to get him to come [to the studio] but I think he’s getting his hair done. I don’t think he believed me when I said I was coming into Xfm.”
Finally, when asked if he would be joining the band onstage at the Carling Weekender festival, he replied simply, “I’m up for playing.”
Doherty also performed a solo acoustic version of The Libertines’ new single ‘Don't Look Back Into The Sun’ which he dedicated to Barat, saying “This one’s for you Biggles”.
The track has been produced by ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler and will be released on August 18 via Rough Trade. While Doherty did play on the single, it’s reported that album sessions are currently underway without his input.
Hmmm.... any thoughts? He could return for Reading and Leeds... possible that they're working on the new album without him... he's gone shaven headed?!
