It's what's known as a peer-to-peer file sharing system, similar in principle to Napster when it first began, and Kazza, Morpheus etc. since. It's a piece of software which you need to download, available at www.slsknet.org. You then search for the artist and/or name of song and then take it from there... it's quite self-explanatory once you start using it. Personally, I prefer a program called LimeWire (www.limewire.com) - works in the same way but I find the number of files being shared is often larger.

hey, unlike Morpheus & Kazaa,Soulseek wont load a bunch of computer-destroying adware & pop up crap into your system...there always seems to be a lot of Libs related stuff on Soulseek........Does this Limewire program (Ive never heard of it) just load the program & nothing else? I must admit that I'm really not sure, lpecucci. I've had it for around two months now and haven't noticed anything additional in the way of pop-ups; I run an anti-spyware check every couple of weeks though, so it may just be that I don't notice because that sorts it out... I prefer Limewire for searching for pre-releases (I've found The Others, Bloc Party and Doves albums on there in the past few weeks) but Soulseek's great for the Babyshambles/Libs/Peter stuff sessions floating around. Of course, some would argue that all of the P2Ps mentioned above are illegal, immoral and just plain wrong

Oh, and Remo - most of the Babyshambles sessions etc. are online at other places; they're all (I think) available through www.andrewkendall.com (go to the 'Misc' section). They're all downloadable as Bittorrent files, which I think means other people who already have it need to be online at the time you try to download it. You'll need to download the Bittorrent program Andrew has linked from that page, and hopefully it'll be obvious what you do from there... Hope that helps!

Of course, some would argue that all of the P2Ps mentioned above are illegal, immoral and just plain wrong i can see that some people see it as stealing, and i suppose when you download tons of stuff it could be damaging, but most of the stuff i download off it is bootlegs and single tracks only. and i think i buy more cds now than i ever did before i got it. and all this crap about i-tunes giving the artists loads is wrong too, 0.01p per track or something? betwen a band of 5?

Exactly! I find that the more I download, the more I find out about new bands, then the more I download tracks... and the more I find songs that I like, the more albums I'll buy...
I occasionally download whole albums, but then if I like them I'll always buy them when they come out.

It is interesting that UK album sales are at a record high. Downloading isn't killing music in my opinion; people get to hear new music by downloading and then go out and buy the album.
Some people don't of course but I think the benefits of downloading to the industry outweigh the negatives.

personally i think that all downloads should be free because well you spend $300 just to by the i-pod and you pay a 1.00 for each song, 2.00 for each video and u might want 300 songs thats $300.00 more or if you want 300 videos thats 2*300 equals $600.00 and we all want music because we bought the freaking i-pod. Now am i right or am i right! huh. Thanks for listening sincerely Blazing Demon557
