pete obviously couldent care two shits for the people who've shelled out good money on the premise that the libertines (including him) would be playing, Well thats hardly fair is it?? Have you read the messages he left on babyshambles.com? He wants to play, the rest of band don't want him stepping in at the moment for reasons we're not fully aware of. I'm sure theres good reasons for all of this, and I have faith things will come together in the end. It's not good at the moment, but some day....?

this section from petes post that tim pointed out should answer a few questions
"I'm so saddenned and confused by recent events, including two deaths in my family, and most peculiar politics occurring between myself the passport office, Banny, various stalkers and obsessives, death threats (including attempted murder on me and a lover, and armed escort from a club)Carlos' promise broken to play at gigs etc - the many things that make up the complete and final full stop inability at present to join any so-called Libertines gigs. "

I dont think its fair to blame anyone at all cos we dont know whats really gone on, but im glad the rest of the band are carrying on. Im still looking forward to fri and sat, though it wont be as good without pete will it?

I too hope it blows over... there's obviously mitigating circumstances for Pete's behaviour, the death of two members of his family being a large part of that, but I'm not sure that The Libertines as we know them will remain... Carl is pretty annoyed with Pete, who in turn has said he doesn't want John and Gary in the band, for reasons we don't know about.
I don't know how I feel about the band carrying on without Pete... it's not so bad for the tour, and we should back them for still playing the dates, but I don't think The Libertines will exist just without Pete, to be honest. People say that it's more than just about line-ups, that it's the music (which it is) and everything that comes with that, but no sensible person can deny that Pete (and Carl, and their relationship as frontmen and co-writers) is a large part of what makes The Libertines so so special. It seems harsh to say that if Gary or John were to leave it would be different, and indeed it wouldn't be the same, for the music or for the fans, but I don't think it would remove the very heart of that which makes the band so exciting...
It would be both bewildering and brilliant if Pete was to go solo and tour babyshambles, but I figure that's some way off being a reality at the moment...
Just my (quite upset actually) thoughts...

I totally agree Tim. As much as I love Gary and John, I really do, it wouldn't be the same if they left as Carl or Peter. We've known all along that there woudl be no Libertines without Carl or without Peter, its no different now in my eyes. You can't have the Libertines without them both.

Yeah, exactly. I love John and Gary too, they each bring something great to the band, but it'd be foolish to think it would be the same. As Jim said, it would just be such a shame if Carl and Pete don't work things out - such a great songwriting partnership, such great friends (soulmates, some might say) and enemies, frontmen, such great chemistry - it'd be awful to see all that go to waste...
