i dont know if you've all seen this but it got me worried a bit, hopefully its bollocks, The frontman of The IV's has lifted the lid exclusively on how last years indie darlings and recent NME best new band The Libertines are on the verge of splitting. According to John IV, speaking at The Parkinsons Boston Arms gig on Friday 14th March, Libertines singer/guitarist Pete Doherty has apparently sacked bass player John Hassall and drummer Gary Powell. Doherty’s decision has angered his fellow singer/guitarist Carl Barat who has now moved out of the house he shared with Doherty and is staying with John IV. Since they burst on the scene last year, Stories of bust-ups and rock n roll mayhem have often overshadowed the Libertines music. So this could just be the latest in a long line of clichéd industry rumours the band have put about or it could be the end for The Libertines. www.fakediy.net/view.php?load=arcview&article=317&c=news

No, it can't be true! Libs can't split. I suppose it's just another small quarrel between them. Maybe Peter was too stoned or maybe too drunk... Aren't they friends???

I'm really hoping its not true.
I heard from a good source that Gary didn't know anything about this... so seems like it is rubbish.

dont you hate the term "indie darlings"?? it sounds so trite, and girlie. not being sexist or anything, but you must see my point?!! I cant believe the libs would split just like that, after all, theyve been going for years, and have only just made it 'big'. ok, line ups seem to have changed over the years (mr razzcocks, anyone?), but pete n carl are always gonna be writing music, together or not. seems like a big shame if they do fuck it all up now though. still, very punk rock if they do split - take that nme, with your "indie darlings etc"!! matt

Oi JIm... first of all if John did leave it wouldn't be the end of the LIbertines. I don't know how you work that out. Yes I did sack him, but he came back. Big knockers. Also, it's 'Don't Look Back INTO' the fucking sun. Also, fuck the NME. They have nothing to do with this band. Peter x

Right, I understand that if john left it wouldnt be the end but i just read the article and got worried and put it on here for people to mull over. I now understand that it is bollocks, as is the NME, but i still buy it, more fool me, but every now and again theres something in there worth reading, but not worth the £1.60 they have now started charging for it since they had that free CD on, and thought people wouldnt notice.......rambling In the mean time, ill look forward to hearing dont look back into the fucking sun again

Hey Peter! And what about Carlos? Did he come back to the Albion Rooms or did he just never leave 'em? Because certainly if John did leave it wouldn't be the end of The Libertines, but if Carlos leaves it probably WILL be the end. Am I right?
Hope everything's okay now!
