I've no idea, to be honest... only with a large slice of luck could it be a completely new track (although the BRMC one on the 'NEW ROCK REVOLUTION!!!! cd was previously unreleased) I think... maybe it'll be a b-side, or an album track like Begging or something...? I guess we shall find out tomorrow... I did stumble across this interview today, which is an interesting read, even if, as per usual, you have to doubt whether they're just talking porky pies again... I can't see that they would be lying to such an extent though, in which case news of a new album might be of interest... www.dotmusic.com/interviews//February2003/interviews28240.asp

Oh I do love that Streets song, it's great - makes me laugh every time! But yeah, you're right, NME just lies out of its' arse most of the time - rare? Yeah, right... And they couldn't even admit the cd was 10 pence...
The Delaney is a great song indeed, it's good for people who still don't know them so well to hear something not on the album, I reckon... and one of their finest songs too.
Wilko - yeah, it was in the interview I put up above, from dotmusic... I've no idea how true any of that stuff is, you know how bad they are at telling porkies, but they do appear to be writing new stuff, as I believe they played two brand new songs at the Astoria last night....

Peter told my friend at one of the Supergrass gigs they were planning on putting Up The Bracket on the next album. I think he said the only reason it wasn't on this one was because the version they'd done with Mick Jones at the time wasn't as good as the original, but they didn't want to use the original with different production.
Japan gets the extra tracks cause they don't have singles there, the Japanese bonus tracks are normally b-sides, but when have the Libertines been a band to follow whats normal?

I dont think they'll ever better the original what a waster, its just right the way it is,
they should get butler back to do some more bsides or something and have jones do the albums,
an all star production team.

Didn't they have a 'disagreement' with Butler? Can't imagine them getting rid of Mick Jones now. Both of them were at the gig on Wednesday though.... I couldn't stop myself from talking to Mick. He was lovely despite the fact I was probably a bit manic.

I'm a bit torn on this one to be honest - I'd like to hear a speeded up, more raw version of What A Waster, because the original, while still great, does sound quite odd now, what with the album and everything...and it worked wonders with I Get Along.
I just can't see any point in putting it on the next album - it's a cult classic already, and if people missed it the first time round, then, well, tough shit really... sorry... I just think it would be a bit of a cop out, the new LP needs to move forward, not revamp the past...
I hope they keep Mick Jones as producer, the sound of the album is fantastic, especially noticed in songs like Time For Heroes (which suits being rugged, I think) and the improvement in I Get Along...
Holly - you went to the Astoria gig? You lucky devil... you didn't catch the titles of any of the new songs, did you, or remember how good they were? Damn I'm jealous...

I love the original because it reminds me of what first got me interested in this great band cos i just listened to it over and over for the first few months (probably weeks) They could maybe maybe have a live recording of what a waster on a bside to a single or something, but i agree that they should leave it off any up coming album.
Roll on monday.

Holly - you went to the Astoria gig? You lucky devil... you didn't catch the titles of any of the new songs, did you, or remember how good they were? Damn I'm jealous... I did yeah... it was brilliant. If only the Hiss never played it could have been a perfect line up. The Sights and The Detroit Cobras were fantastic, and of course the Libertines were amazing. The Hiss were fucking awful though. After seeing them with the Sights again on Tuesday night I'm getting a real hatred for them. I don't remember the names of the new songs sorry... think they're on the news page here though... yeah, Arbeit mach Frei and Dont Look Back. They were both good, I remember one being slow.. well not slow, less fast than say Up The Bracket. It's all a bit of a daze now though. I've took some photos, put them here - uk.photos.yahoo.com/holly_calderI agree they should keep Mick Jones as the producer, he's done brilliantly, suit the Libs perfectly. Theres something about Peter that really reminds me of Mick Jones too, but thats irrelevant... Would be nice to hear a new version of What A Waster, but I guess I agree that it might seem a little backward looking to put it on the new album. Always nice to have new songs... does deserve to be heard though. Maybe they should re-release it as a single inbetween albums? I don't know.

They could always stick it on as a b-side maybe. Call it a demo version.

Yeah, so maybe the b-side thing is people's preferred option... of course ideally it wouldn't be a b-side, because I'd like to think people weren't simply buying the single for What A Waster, but I guess you can't have everything...
