From way far across the sea came an eritsean maiden she had a 1 track mind & eyes for me half blinded in the wall with a pale young anglican who said he'd help her all he can, showed her Jesus and his little un-holy friend she had no mind to please him just say 'tara' and leave him behind...
there's a little boy in a stairwell who say 'i hate people like you' got matches & cable TV 1/2 of less than sop. we all clambered over the balcony banging on the window waking steve, bringing with a new love his un-holy friend. if you really need it, you mustn't leave it behind.
please kill me, no don't kill me but don't bring that ghost round to my door i don't wanna see them anymore please kill me no don't kill me but don't go on about yesterday i wouldn't know about that anyway
monkey asked the mouse before, if she loved anybody more than he- it turns you into stone, now i'm regressing down this lonely street to a cheap hotel when i can meet the past & pay it off & keep it sweet. it's sweet like nothing at all.
yes i've seen you there. how could i help but stare it rips the heart out off your body now i've taken far too much to think or see or touch what's real, i'm stranded on this street that paved my only way home
you really need it...you just won't leave it behind. he got nothing - he got nothing at all

It certainly is... I really love the line "now i'm regressing down this lonely street to a cheap hotel when i can meet the past & pay it off & keep it sweet" - absolutely brilliant - they are superb lyricists, they really are... there's many more classic lines, even just in that song...
I have to say though, even though it's still one of my very favourite Libertines songs, I think they actually played it better on the first Xfm session they did - the album version isn't quite as, I don't know, feisty... but maybe that's because I spend half my time listening to those session tracks on my PC...

Yeah i agree the session one seemed to have a bit more to it, same with begging aswell, though they still sound great on the album. I wonder if Bangkok will be a bside,?, hope so That one they played at reading is good aswell, crying out for a double album really. They had about 25 songs recorded to choose from.
I wish i could come up with lyrics half as good as the ones they write I think the word is genius.
