ok i've fallen in love with this song and noticed there was no intro on the songbook site...so i obviously had to work it out. here it goes. if you have any questions just ask...
e-7---8--10---8---7--3--0--2--2--------- b-8--10--12--10--8--5--0--2--3---------- g-7----------------7---------3--2------
it does vary when he does it...sometimes playing the E as 5 on the b string and open e and there are always variations all over the place but when you play this you'll know it's the basic frame of it and you cna vary it as you please.

I posted this on the songbook a few weeks ago too. I haven't had time to try your guys' versions, but I like this one. Let me know what you think of it, even though it's not mine, as I initially stated.
Cheers, Tomas

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm stealing this from someone, but with the best intentions. I just remember this being posted a while back over on Boysintheband I think...It sounds good to me.
e------------------------------------------------------------------ b-12-12-13-13-15-15-13-13-12-12-12sl8------------10- g-12-12-14-14-16-16-14-14-12-12-12sl9---------11---- d-----------------------------------------10sl12-------- a------------------------------------------------------------------ e------------------------------------------------------------------
*repeat*
That's more or less what was posted before, just from memory. If you listen to the original babyshambles, I think it fits.
Cheers, Tomas "

yeah. that's a lot harder to play though if you're playing an acoustic guitar without a cutaway. on the last tour with dot allison i noticed pete was playing it more or less on the top two strings. it also means that when you finish on the D you've got easy acces to that F#-G slide from the second to third fret....
