You're welcome here!! Hello! Well, I haven't heard Maloze or The Datsuns album yet, I think the latter are pretty cool but they seem to have some really good songs and then some OK ones... I'll probably buy the LP though, if just for a listen - at least they don't take themselves too seriously, as you say... My list, right at this moment, would probably run: The Libertines (too obvious!) James Yorkston and The Athletes (folk-indie-crossover thing, absolutely brilliant and beautiful, stunning album) The Streets - again, stunning album Clinic - highly underrated, very good album Low - very slow, haunting melodies, great stuff... That's just at the moment though! Is anyone else into slower, more melancholic stuff? A friend sent me a tape with stuff like Mazzy Star, Low, Will Oldham etc on it, it really is quite divine... or are you all too busy rocking your socks off??!!!

Ive not heard any maloze stuff yet but ive got the datsuns album and thats quite good. Other things that have made it into my CD player recently are: Hoggboy Crescent (esp spinnin wheels, top tune) The Jam @ the bbc Supergrass Athlete (i suppose they count as slower stuff) I like the streets aswell but haven't bought the album yet, theres a song on one of the singles called give me my lighter back thats one of my favs. Im looking forward to seeing Interpol and British sea power on monday, two of my fav new bands.
These are the good old days!

James Yorkston and The Athletes (folk-indie-crossover thing, absolutely brilliant and beautiful, stunning album) Is anyone else into slower, more melancholic stuff? I was really disappointed with the James Yorkston album.... maybe I need to try again. Do you like Alfie? I LOVE them. Though the Libertines are approaching Alfie like worshiping at a scarily fast rate. I don' t think I've turned off Up The Bracket since I got it, been on a continuous loop. When I do manage to turn off The Libertines I've been listening to BRMC and The Von Bondies a lot lately.

Holly - yeah, I guess the James Yorkston album isn't for everyone, but I'd definitely recommend giving it another try - I absolutely love it, but I think maybe it is one of those albums you either like or you don't...
I've not heard much Alfie, to be honest. Who / what do they sound like?
Jim82 - British Sea Power are brilliant live, they were completely mad at Leeds Festival, superb. I'd recommend them to everyone, go and see them on their upcoming tour... Interpol, however, I wasn't quite as keen on, but I haven't heard the album yet, so maybe they're just more of a studio band...?

They were just as mad last nite aswell, throwing bits off trees around and stuff, the whole venue smelt of pine needles. Interpol were good but all their songs sound very similar, they might be different on record though.

I was told if I liked Alfie I'd love James Yorkston, I will give it another shot. From what I remember they've got a similar orchestral sound to Alfie. Seems he's from just down the road from me too.
Alfie are superb, you'll probably like them if your into the Beta Band, or Badly Drawn Boy (although I'm not much of a fan of the scribbly one). Alfie are pretty eclectic, they've got a full time cellist in the band who's pretty central to their sound, and part time trumpet and flute players too. There have been so many comparisons banded about, from the Beach Boys to The Stone Roses and everyone in between. I've been listening to a track they're working on for the new album a lot lately, there's quite a strong hint of Simian in there in my opinion.
British Sea Power.... now there's one crazy band. It can not be comfy to have branches stuffed down your back!
I quite like Interpol, but I've still not seen them live . I reckon they'd be best seen when you knew their material pretty well.
For some reason it won't let me post as me!

Cool - sounds like a good gig! I'm with you on the Interpol thing though, their songs do seem similar and the only ones that stood out for me were the ones I'd heard before. Maybe it would have been better if I'd heard the album before the gig.
Holly - did you try and log in? If you tried to just post as a guest then it would recognise that that name was taken (by you!)... if that makes sense...?!
Well, Alfie sound pretty good, and I quite like some of the Beta Band's stuff and Badly Drawn Boy so maybe I should investigate further... hopefully it'll work the other way around (if I like James Yorkston I'll like Alfie)!
Yep, British Sea Power are mental, can't wait to see them in a week or so's time... and you're probably right about Interpol, it probably does help to know it quite well. Another album for the list then!!

Yeah... I tried logging in, but it wasn't having any of it. Oh well, I'll just be 'mmmmm'. It'll do.
Sounds like a plan, you try Alfie and I'll try James Yorkston!
I've had the Interpol album here for a while, but it's been neglected badly, I just can't turn off the Libertines album (so damn good). How well do BSP come across on record? I've seen them live a few times, but I've never been inspired to go out and buy anything.

I think british sea power sound better on record than they do live cos their live shows just a bit mad. I liked alfies first album but ive not really liked any of their latest stuff. I bought the word in your ear single and thats it. I liked the video for make no bones though.

To be honest, I'm the opposite - I don't think they come across as well on record as they do live, but that's just my preference - mind you, you can at least actually hear the songs properly on CD...! The Lonely is a very good song though, and I've only heard that as the b-side to 'Spirit Of St. Louis'.

I changed my password to something more memorable, and then forgot I changed it! I'm a fool. Sorry your not too into the newer Alfie stuff, the albums ace, if a little more accessable than the first. I'll stop preaching though.

I just got a promo copy of maloze's More Love the Murder EP it is great. right up there with up the bracket. Christian's voice kills me. I'd say one of the original sounding voices I've ever heard. Great lYrics too. Not sure if Christian write them all.
