don`t get me wrong peter is a wicked singer and songwriter, but the libertines are still wild and will always be the greatest band with or without him. i just saw their gig in montreal wednesday and anthony was quite a good replacement( not a peter) but excellent. i had drinks with the boys after the show and they said they`d take peter back when he was ready to return.
sorry for the long message but i just wanted to let people know Peter is just one quarter of the band and the Libertines rock just as hard without Peter because Carl, Gary and John are are musical geniouses.

They both write songs and then play them together and add or change bits between them as far as i know. Carls been writing new ones as well, its just we dont hear them like we do petes via babyshambles etc.

your both right, carl and peter both had an equal influence on the songwriting but i believe carl could do just as well and keep the libertines popular without peter, not saying peter is not brilliant but carl is greater in my mind.

lets face it, your talkin bollocks, pete is the charismatic frontman every rockband needs, u shud b sayin that pete will rock without the libs, dont get me rong they are a rockin band and carl is a gud musician/lyricist but they will be sidelined if pete starts up a new band, the best we can hope for is for pete to come home, am i alone in this belief???

the whole discussion of who is better than the other is ridiculous. They are both better than the other in different ways. Separate either could maintain a band by themselves, they are both great singers and songwriters. But together they are magical, when theyre voices intertwine and harmonize and theyre two writing style comingle in the same songs, it's fantastic really. I just hope that Pete makes it back into the band so that the libs never make a video like "i get along" again. But that's just me.

Good day to all after such a long time.... Look people, Thom got it in one. The Libs are not the Libs without all 4 (four) of the original members. We need them back collectively and if they piss off and do little ditsy side projects or fuck themselves on drugs then it is not the Libertines spirit that they are playing with. You need all or nothing to be the Libertines, we want Pete back, get to rehab my son, don't fuck about and everything will be cushti and the Libs will be able to prove themselves once more as the bestest fucking band in the world that we know they are (and what a bunch of fucking nice down to earth lads n all!) Mon the Libs! Love to all Libs worldwide Mike

I think both carl and pete are indispensable to the band, if either one of them was missing it wouldnt be the same. I live in hope that we will see pete and carl back together, in the libertines.

I thought I heard that Pete said that John and Gary were just musicians that they payed to back them (Carl and Pete)? (I hope thats a lie?) Yes, Carl does a great gig without Pete there, but when i saw them at the Forum, i couldn't help but feel Carl was looking over his shoulder for a nod of encouragement from Peter?? Peter is a Brilliant songwriter as we can see from babyshambles, but I always feel that his vocal isn't as strong/Loud/confident as it is when he sings onsatge with the others??! They definately need each other, but they are soldiering on whatever is happening in their lives!? It will all come together again, I can see it in my dreams!!!
Love to Libertines all over the world x x

i agree, pete is a great songwriter, one of the best, and it just doesnt seem the same now they have their own seperate versions of the libertines. I shows how great they are with their own bands, but it also shows how even better they were together.
Skint and minted is good too, it shows the wealth of good songs they have up their sleeves.

tooney, were did you here that pete said john and gary are just being payed to back him and carl cus that's a fuckin ridiculous thing for Pete to say. As fantastic as carl and pete are, gary's brilliant drum playing and john on the bass play crucial parts to the band and they're not just THERE they're Libertines and damn good at making music.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying that!!
It was on some website biography of the band. Something about Pete and Carl had been playing together since the beginning and they had so much trouble trying to find a bassist and drummer that they decided to just get anybody in and pay them to play with them??
I dont think its true, its just what i read. I think they are all great and if it was Gary or John that was in Pete's situation it wouldn't be as bad, (cos they dont write the songs) but, the libertines would still lose a quarter of that fantastic energy that they have when together. I'll try and find the site again, (I think it was a french one that was translated?) and i'll leave the link on here for you.
Love to all fellow Libertines x x
Hope to see a lot of you at Reading this weekend, I'll be wearing a straw trilby hat and dancing drunkenly, feel free to hug me i'm a very happy drunk!

ive also heard pete say that carl pays a drummer and a bass player to play with them, and its just him and carl who are officially signed to rough trade as the libertines.
