God damn the one night I'm actually at home and doing some work and I don't look at one of the Libs sites and this happens and I fucking miss it! The server has pulled the temporary site... Not sure when the songs will be back up. I'm dying to hear them. Ooh I do love the Libertines. No one else would do this would they?

Thanks Jim, I got that earlier off babyshambles.tk. I've still not heard all the tracks, but of the ones I have heard thats one of my favourites. I adore it.
I've been getting bits from all over, but I've finally got the whole 40 songs! They're all amazing, and so many surprises! I almost died when I heard Deep Pile Dreams, and even the OCS cover, once I got over the surprise, Huckleberry Grove. That song was a soundtrack of a summer in the village I used to live in when I was younger.
I can't get the .org address to work, but I'm dying to see it, everyone whos seen the site seems dead positive about it. Shes done a great job! Really want to read what shes written about it, but for the life of me I can't get it to work.

Wow, must say thanks to you Jim for putting all these on the site, and to everyone else involved... I've just read the piece on the .org site about getting hold of the cd's and stuff, it's all just so beautiful... Albion is absolutely amazing... one of the finest things they've written so far, I think... Babyshambles, Last Post On The Bugle, Don't Look Back Into The Sun, I Love You But You're Green are some favourites at the moment and I haven't even had chance to listen to them all quite yet... Superb!

Here it is:
I met Peter in the lobby of the Chelsea Hotel just after noon. I was expecting to pick up a bunch of photos, sketches, scraps of notes for the website. I never imagined I'd receive the three precious discs that were actually bestowed to me. These are the records of the Babyshambles Sessions, which for the most part remain a mystery to me. At least part was recorded in New York in the last couple of weeks (early May 2003). I did not ask for details and was offered none, just the imperative to get these out to you as quickly as possible. Peter anxiously wanted to share these bits and pieces with all. Suddenly feeling the weight of responsibility I asked if there were other copies. He answered, rather calmly, no and only half-jokingly instructed me to guard them with my life. So these were it! These three naked discs he had so casually handed over to a stranger in the lobby of the Chelsea, who without any better ideas folded a piece of paper around them and dropped them in my wreck of a bag. In a moment of hesitation Peter suggested to perhaps withold the bad ones, claiming some were terribly out-of-tune and suffered from unspecified deficiences. But after many many listenings, nothing deserved to be left out, although I do have favorites.
These are "demos," a break from shiny, finished, individually-wrapped commodities. They are notes stuck on the fridge with the grocery list and the expression of emotion to one's beloved. They are the scrap page riddled with coffee stains and cookie crumbs, and ash on the carpet. They are unfinished letters to friends and enemies. This music is the stumbling and fumbling towards an idea, like-minded people in a room vibrating to their own frequency. It is musical stream of consciousness and raw inspiration. It is music as thinking and process and life and living. It is private music, heavy with acoustic intimacy. There's harmonica, piano, tambourine (underused and underappreciated), songs of others, voices of others, all tossed in. It's not all pretty, but it's beautiful, so many jewels in this rogue bunch.
I was just struck by the beauty of the idea that this music had been created and recorded and had to be shared. That seemed to be Peter's primary concern. It's not about making and selling records, it's about communication, opening the door to the attic and letting us all in. We are offered a glimpse into their mad world, an invitation to visit a while, a tender postcard from their journeys thus far. I'm reminded of one of the best thoughts I've heard expressed, "people used to make records, as in the record of an event, the event of people playing music in a room," (yes I'm quoting Ani DiFranco!), and here are the Libertines to insist that they still do. In the vast landscape of cynicism and ultracool, they have redeemed hope, housed in Arcadia, trafficked on the Albion. I thank them. And I thank Peter for trusting a stranger, I hope I made good. (The discs are being posted to Rough Trade on Monday).
This is entirely for your enjoyment so get to it! Explore! A humble messenger, Helen
Lovely eh?! I'm listening to the songs now (as ever) and they just get better and better...
